Painting Outside 'En Plein Air'
Hello and welcome to my Blog!
This is the first one. I think it's been something that I've always meant to get around to but, for whatever reason never have! I guess painting in the studio is always my priority!!
When I'm not painting in the studio I absolutely love painting outside. Known as “En Plein Air” it has become an integral part of my practice. I usually only paint outside on sunny days, but throughout the seasons.
I love going back to the same places to see how the landscape, flora and fauna changes over the year. I've got my favourite places! In fact this week I went back to woods that I love here in Sussex. I painted the bluebells there back in the Spring and as it was so sunny this week I went and painted the ferns and all the autumnal colours.
It was a glorious day! I painted on a larger canvas this time and I'm hoping to go back and do more next week. I feel inspired to take some much larger canvases with me, as I've never done this before.
I feel very free painting outside. Just getting down all the shapes and colours and not obsessing over the end result too much. It's wonderful to be surrounded by nature and just painting what's in front of me. The only issue are bugs and leaves getting trapped in the paint!
Do follow my journey in the woods over on instagram…..if you don’t already, please follow along!
